Airline Woes?!

Question: A week from Friday, I am going to Greece. I have a flight direct from Detroit to Frankfort, Germany and then a connection from Frankfurt into Athens. I will be waking up at 5:15 that morning to pick up my grandparents from the airport at 6:30 (they will be returning from a Caribbean cruise) and then I'm off to school (for a full day). School is out at 3 but I don't have much time (my bus to Detroit leaves at 3:30), so I have just enough time to dash home and get my luggage and speed back to school. Then my flight leaves from Detroit at 10:30 that night (but we need to be there as early as possible, we're a group of 18 people). I CANNOT sleep in a car or on a plane. I absolutely cannot do it. I have sleep apnea and I stop breathing enough when I'm at home in my own bed, let alone in a car or plane. I don't get enough oxygen and stop breathing and I cannot sleep at all. I don't get to Frankfort until noon on Saturday (because of time zones) and I don't land in Athens until 6 (continued)

Tylenol Pm would be a good choice. I have sleep apnea also, and I fly frequently. Not as far, but I do sleep on the plane. Over sea's flights are more conformable. The Oxygen levels are lower in a plane, but there is enough to sleep. You will not be laying down on your back. You will be more in an upright position. So, if I where you relax, enjoy the ride, and get some shut eye. I have never had a problem with the apena acting up on a plane and I am a 17 on the machine ;)

oh, i didnt see you post the 2nd part.
but, um.. get one of those neck pillows and get a pair of silencing earphones from Sharper Image and get a nature CD track. on the plane, it'll block out that nasty white noise and get you in a more soothing state of mind..

hope i helpedddd(:

i just read an article about this. i will look and see if i can find it.

ok, it's not the same topic, but this might help you anyway. good luck.

No one I know sleeps well on a plane. I don't. Sounds as if you have already convinced yourself. I doze on and off. gets me through a long flight. Of course I'm not well rested when I get there-I deal with it.
If you are that blown away mentally that easily you should never have agreed to go there.
I've flown 18 hours from LA to Mumbai, India and return a couple times. Never again.

Well the good thing is you're going to Greece! (which i assume you are from, looking at your name). I'm Greek too but I'm jealous ;)
It doesn't sound safe for you to try to sleep on a plane or in the car so I suggest you don't sleep. You'll be okay. Caffeinate it up and keep yourself busy; you'll be miserable, but you can sleep when you get to Greece. People have gone longer than two days or so without sleeping, right? Get a lot of rest Thursday night!!

Good luck, and safe travelling... =)

what a calm trip you are planing!
as soon you are in the plane, everything is fine, take an aisle seat so you are more flexible.... relax and enjoy your trip don't
worry so much about things you can't control anyway!

I would talk to your doctor about this situation and maybe he or she could suggest something for you. I have no problem sleeping on plane trips (unfortunately) ! I went to sleep on a total strangers arm on my last business trip ( I was so embarrassed! )
Good luck! I hope that you will find something that will work for you! I will talk to a few of the doctors that I work with, If they suggest something that may help you, I will let you know! Once again, Good luck! :)
