Can a compliment...?!

Question: sometimes mean an insult?

Answers: sometimes mean an insult?

Yes

"And may I say you look particularly lovely tonight."

"What I looked particulary average yesterday."

"No but your dress is beautiful."

"So, my pant suit is ugly."

"I did not say that."

"So now I am putting words in your mouth."

"Well I did not say that either."

"So now I am hearing things."

~ It all depends what they
said and how they said it

it depends on the context in which it's given. i can simply tell you "nice question" and it could be taken as an insult or a compliment.

It is not the words that compliment us.
It is the person who speaks that does... or does not....

Some people seem to like it...

...it can mean other things...it could also be a "good bye"

Like when your mom says: "I knew you were smart! You just needed time to prove it!"?
Yes.
