Do you believe that it is a valid judgement to judge someone's intelligence !

Question: education they have? Why/Why not?

Answers: education they have? Why/Why not?

Judgments can be made when hiring someone, because education does matter, however some of life's more important lessons are not taught in college.

No...my dad didn't go to college and he's a genius!!!

intelligence and level of education are different things entirely. einstein dropped out of high school, after all

Nope....I've known smart people who go to college and couldn't pour sh*t out of a boot without the directions written on the bottom. And then I've known some folks who barely eeked by in high school but are extremely intelligent

nope just because they might have the book smarts says nothing about common sense

To an extent yes...but on the other hand intelligence is not only gained in the classroom it is also gained by life experiences. I think you need a combination of both.

no, because formal education only proves you can start and finish something. the fact that 90% of people in the workforce today are not working in their major field of study in college is a testament to the fact that it doesn't matter what you learn, it matters how you learn. some people learn in school and that's great. some people learn by doing and they're sometimes ahead of the game for not wasting time in a classroom somewhere listening to someone else's version of the right way to do something

To do that would be not to take in account all the self-taught people in the world who were geniuses.

Not at all!

I've known some very intelligent people that never had the chance to go to College and some... well... not so intelligent people that did.

Absolutely NOT!

Intelligence based on Education.... is not a Valid Test.

Many Fortune 100 and 500 Companies have Extensive In House Testing and Psychological TESTING for their Candidates!

Many WASH OUT... even though they have the 4.0 and 5-Years of College!

True WISDOM..... is the test of Intelligence!

I may know..... HOW TO SHOOT A GUN......

But WISDOM...... tells me How... When.... and.... Where!

The Range is Place for Practice.... not the Yard!

Thanks, RR

not really you can send a kid to the top education institutions in the workd but if they don't want to learn they aren't going to. And a person that hasn't been to anything but public school can be the smartest person in the world with a library card and a yearing for some learning.

Most millionaires are not formally educated.

No I don't. Many people are very intelligent who have never gone to secondary education. College will expose you to new learning, but it will not make you a more intelligent person. Intelligence is a natural function and not that of time spent in schooling. Stupid people finish college too sometimes.

no.. there are heaps of different types of intelligence.. like interpersonal intelligence, or common sense. u cant learn that in school.

No , I do not...

First, I do not think it is nice to judge anyone...

Secondly ,- many people can be book smart and not have any type of worldly smarts at all...
They can actually be somewhat stupid..

I believe that real intelligence comes in a kinds of packages...

Everyone has something to offer..
.

No because I think intelligence has something to do with genetics and also about the type of person you are. If you are an air-head and you get a formal education then it might not matter because you didn;t pay attention. Also if you have mental disabilities it doesn't matter where you go, you will have a difficult time anywhere. It really all depends on how much you care about your education and how much your mind can do. ?

no im in 6th grade yet my IQ is higher than the average adult!

No. many intelligent people did not go to college. Besides, there are different types of intelligences. You have the book intelligence (academic), common sense, Computer savvy, etc. I know people who have graduated from college who do not possess any of the above that I stated. It just depends. Basically, no..formal education is not valid reason to judge someone as being more intelligent than another. However, society does that which is why you have to have a certain amount of formal education to get cetain jobs. That's life.

No there are many types of intelligence and many times there are peopel with very little education that can do many great things as well as people who are greatly educated and do ignorant things...case in point our Harvard educated president!

No. Intelligence is just a measurement of a persons potential ability to learn. A very intelligent person can sit back and not take in any new ideas or information. While a person with less intelligence can work hard at gathering and processing unfamiliar information and adjust their mind sets accordingly. A piece of paper or two from an educational institute does not automatically reflect either path. Intellectual growth It is completely up to the effort put in by the individual.

No. There are a lot of factors that influence formal education. It is a safe assumption that someone with their phD is a smart person, at least in their field. However, just because someone didn't go to college doesn't mean they lack intelligence, it just means it wasn't possible, wasn't a priority, or wasn't appealing. I have a friend who has a very good job making close to $100,000 per year and he never went to college. He got into a short term position years ago and was found to be very bright at what he does and excelled at it. His wife has 2 degrees, she's a dingbat and never worked a day in her life.

nah ...eye even nebber finnished Jr. Hi an Eye'm berry, berry scmart.

In some contexts yes. If you study psychology you will learn about intelligence and the different kinds of intelligence. Although this is still a hotly contested subject, it is safe to say that there are multiple kinds of intelligence. For example,I am really good with differential equations and higher mahts, yet I don't know how to manage my money very well. On the other hand is my father, not academic, but very wise with money and a very good work ethic. It also matters on what you are judging the person for. Do you want a rocket scientist? don't hire a business major expecting them to know anything about advnaced modeling of rocket engines. By the same toke, DO NOT expeca math major to be good with money, all the people i know, including myself, who are good with math, lack money management skills. As Bill Gates said " people come to me expecting me to know about subjects which I know nothing about."
Also remember, education is no indicator of how much information the person has absorbed, for all you know, a college educated person could have been forced into going to college, and passed because of expectations or threats. In short, no, do not judge people by their level of education. At the same time, and in response to a lot of peoples beliefs, realize that esoteric studies are JUST as important as practical knowledge. For example, consider the fact that Einstein was pretty bad with money, yet today, who do we rely on to enhance our comfort of living: Einstein, or the guy who was pretty succesful because he knew how to manage money? Consider this before refusing to study subjects which you deem not applicable to real life. As my sociology teacher said "you forget much of what you learn in college, but that isn't the point, the point is that you gain new perspectives on situations, that you open up your mind instead of rejecting new beliefs". Therefore, when college is used correctly, it definitely makes a difference. One thing formal education teaches is how to get the right answer every time with as little work as possible.
In summary, judge the person on who they truly are; are they a good problem solver, or are they limited by functional fixedness (the mindset that objects can only be used for their intended purpose), do they open their minds to new perspectives, or do they follow family values blindly. Take formal education with a grain of salt, there is no knowing why they got the education level which they have. Also consider social intelligence, it may seem impractical, but a bad morale can bring a company down faster than bed management.
