It has happened ALOT.
At home........ I needed a locksmith once.
Another time, a neighbor broke a window for me.
In my car.....COUNTLESS times. The most recent, a few weeks aga.....I locked myself out at the post office. A TOTAL stranger drove me home. I waited until he left. THEN....I retreived my hidden HOUSE key, let myself in and called a neighbor. He drove me BACK to the post office and I got my car.....WHEW!!! Two VERY nice people....One very disorganized....ME!!!!
My husband locked himself out of the house. He had the garage door opener but couldn't get into the house. He used stuff from his tool box to break the door knob. We now stash a key in the garage!
yea...I had to brake a hole in the window..it was like 20 below zero outside. I wasn't going to wait until someone woke up and found me, a frozen marshmallow.
car, twice and house once. the cops let me in the car, and i had to call a locksmith to get into the house. ($60.00!). now carry extra set of keys, lol.
My house, through a kitchen window, was 8 months pregnant, car again 8 months pregnant, I swear this kid took part of my brain too. The police got the slim jim to unlock the car.

House, yes. But only cuz the lock broke inside the door handle. I believe someone used a knife and busted the door open for me.
I've been locked out by the car and my place. I did the same as you w/ the window that wasn't locked to get back into my apartment at the time. The car I either has to fork over some money to pop a lock or luckily I got a hold of my husband who has a key.
