It has nothing to do with them being ugly or not.. Its more so a privacy thing.. not many people want to have their real pics plastered on this site in case someone they know recognizes them... some people post and answer some pretty strange questions on here and I bet quite a few are proffessionals as well... I personally would not like to see my Dr. on here answering pervy questions... would you?
Also, some people just dont know how to work computers.. I have no idea how to put my real picture on anything... *sigh* Im computer illiterate*pout*

I've used my real picture in the past, but I think it's fun to use different ones for a while. I agree with the other answers; I don't like people looking at mine -- Could be creeps looking, you know. D:

Butt-ugly is in the eye of the beholder. There are ones that are so self-conscious that they insult people while hiding behind an avatar that isn't them.
I'm a sexy @$$ with a nice rack to a whole lot of people, so whatever.
I have two reasons for using an avatar: 1) I actually haven't bothered to see how to put my own pic on here; 2) I would worry about a stalker. I've had one and it is scary as h*ll!
