We wore pumps or plimsoles( a light rubber soled canvas sports shoe) when we were in Primary School.That however was before Trainers became fashionable.I think I would have much preferred to wear Trainers.Much more stylish than pumps!

Yes I had them, I have brought them for my son too as I sent his trainers with him and his bag went missing.

were they black with a bit of elastic at the front, then yes.
Pumps were the only available type of footwear sutable for use when I was at primary school. They had a red dot and a green dot on the toes to distinguish left from right!!.

Yes, I can and I remember wearing white plimsols in the RAF for PT that needed to be whitened after each use.
later in my RAF days they changed these to trainers because plimsols do not protect your knees etc from damage on long runs. So thanks to the RAF my knees are screwed.
Pumps were vile

and i would have wanted to wear trainers too.
trainers were not around when i was at primary school, and yes i went through several pairs of those horrid black elastic things, my mum got them free because we were on income support, i always equate pumps with hardship, and im fortunate enough to be able to buy my kids new trainers, and sports kits for school.
edit- yes i would have prefered trainers if i had known about them!
yes i remember but we called them plimsolls (i think that how you spell them) trainers are more comfortable anyway so yeh i would have prefered to wear them
Yes, and they had black and white ones. I'd still go for the plimsolls.
i remember letting off pumps! and also wearing them! they were smelly and warm! nathan croucher is a god!
