I try to avoid them. At times it's hard to especially if they are someone at work or a supervisor or someone close to you. In that case, I take them aside and tell them one-on-one to go easy, that they are making a scene of themselves. If they have a problem, I will usually ask them if they need to talk about it on a confidential basis.
