It could well be.....this gives the incentive to our species to try harder to better ourselves as complacency is the enemy of progress........Life changes and we need to adapt and with those who lose it serves as an example of what would happen to us in their place..It can be extremely stark and of course the rewards for winning make the effort worthwhile and gives us credibility.....
