It is St. Patrick's Day, but if you are in Ireland, you missed it because it was celebrated on Saturday.
St Patricks day is always the 17th of March so yes it is today, some People in Ireland celebrate it all weekend as it's on a weekday this year so perhaps that is where the confusion came in.

March 17 is the date when St Patrick died in the 5th century and is the day which is used by the Irish to commemorate him. Yes, today is St Patrick's day. But accordingly, the Catholic Church, particularly in the US, has moved it's commemoration on the 15th day of March for this year (2008) in order to give distinction of the celebration of the Holy Week.
