I define a great actor as being able to completely become their role, to be unrecognisable as themselves. Most actors, you go, "Oh, that's so-and-so." Of course you could be commenting on how they look, but you can always tell Jim Carrey because he's being a spaz, Robin Williams (and don't get me wrong, he's one of my favourites) is always doing a bunch of voices and impressions that're still recognisable as him...
So I have to say John Hurt. Watch The Elephant Man. Watch V for Vendetta. He acts as Merrick and Commander Sutler. Try it with any two of his movies, actually; the makeup for Merrick is a little bit... it helps with the 'unrecognisable'. It's why he didn't get an oscar.
We r the best actor in the world. We act in many kind of roles, in different character, in differnt situation that too in real life. We dont need to stand in front of camera because the world is itself a camera.
