I need some disapline advice?!

Question: ok, im 18 and im in highschool. im takin this class where i work at a daycare, well not actualy work but more like observe and help out. anyways me and another girl in my class work with the two year olds. a couple of days ago we had all the kids playing with puzzles. this one little boy, we'll call him jason, and this little girl, we'll call her amy, were sitting by each other. and the little boy grabed one of her puzzle pieces that was laying on the table, the little girl started getting up set and wanting it back, and the little boy keep saying "i just want to help you". well i say to the little boy "jason you have to give the peice back" and he tells me he is just wanting to help. so i tell him to give it back alittle rougher, and then the other girl in my class comes over and grabs the peice out of the boys and hands, and sets him at a differnt table and says that he can't get up untill he finishes his puzzle. the little boy is crying and everything.

i basically just wanted to know your guys opinion on the situation.

should i have been more rough with the child. or was what i was doing correct? i really just wanted to know if i took the right aproach to the situation.

you should know that the particular boy is kind of mean, and gets in trouble alot.

i also have a little sister, so i didn't know if this is something i would do at home, but something i should be stricter about at a preschool. cause at home i just let the fits blow over and at a preschool you have to step in, but i just felt like what the other girl did was taking it alittle far?

what do you guys think?

also, how should i handle it after something like this happens. i didn't want to jump right in and comfort him cause i thought that would kinda be steping on her toes, even though she did mine. but at the same time the kid was crying really hard. what i did was help him with the puzzle, without it siming like i was trying real hard to comfort him.

oh and by the way i was sitting right next to the kids so i was at eye level and about arms length away.

Considering you're not a teacher, nor a mom (yet, I hope) it sounds like you did a fine job!
