To love and help others. To nurture our children and take care of our elderly parents. To know and love God.

Better question: who cares? Why waste time thinking about it when you're never gonna get an answer? Nobody knows. So just live life.
God got ored one day, same with why deer are here, and frogs, trees, weather, water, squirells, wolverines etc...
Without the pain, the joy wouldn't be as sweet :)

to live...eat, reproduce...and die...look around you...there's no deeper meaning....
There just HAS to be a reason. I'm not a religious person (more agnostic I suppose), but after all my years (68) of pondering the various life's mysteries, on that one, I have to conclude that it's all meant as a sort of preparation for an eternal 'afterlife', but there's no voluntary 'short cut' to it. You have to live your life as best as you can, taking all the crap that's flung at you and enjoying all the wonderful things that you encounter, always hoping that the later is more abundant than the former, of course, and with an attitude of , "my cup is always 'half full', not, 'half empty'.
People always seem to ask this question when they're feeling a bit low, if this is the case with you, then just press on until you come out the other side. When you meet someone and fall in love, or gaze at a beautiful, pure white little snowdrop against the background of dead winter foliage, for example, this question will not enter your mind.
Life is for living, so take it as it comes and LIVE IT.
