Poll: How many times during the night do you get up to .... ?!

Question: chase your blind cat around the house with a spray water bottle, because he is crying at the top of his lungs very LOUDLY, and you are feaful he will wake up all of your 6 peacefully-sleeping children?

In his defense, being born blind, he honestly has no clue it is night time and that everyone else (including the dog and the other pets) all all asleep.

What else can I do to quiet him, besides a few sprays with the water bottle?

Sincerely,
Sleepless in Sleeplessville

aw poor kitty. read to him before bed. sing three bllind mice. get a very large dog

Well I have never experienced that myself, but maybe you could try putting him in a kennel at night or something.

Pick him up and put him in bed with you so he knows he's safe. Christ, if I were blind and getting sprayed with a water bottle, I'd be crying too. Give him a break, he's BLIND for pete's sake!

if he is too much for you to handle maybe you should find a home he can live where they will tend to him and treat him better then to have to chase him around with a water bottle. My one cat hates water and i would never want to do anything to make her scared or angry... blind or not

I'm just want the money!! Give it up!!

LOL!!!!!!

Sorry to hear your troubles. Maybe if you crate the cat at night.
It will take some time getting use to but then it willknow it is a certain time of the day.

i dont sleep

i just sit on the side of my bed rocking back and forward with matches in my eyes

i dont know i sleep through the entire night. so i dont have any experience with whats going on with you.

I commend you for taking and keeping a cat like that. A Lot of people wouldn't do it. instead of spraying him which probably scares him.(he doesn't see you coming). i would talk in a soothing voice and Caresse him and pick him up and tell him that everything will be OK. Give him a kiss and a pet. Tell him that you love him. I would try that for a couple of nights and see if that calms him. he is maybe wondering why no one is awake. Why no one is playing with him. Cuddle with him. you could try it before you go to bed to kinda like a routine. Showing him that you are going to bed and that he need to sleep.
I wish you the best of luck. you are a very kind person.

Why don't you just hold him for a little while. Since he is blind and since at night all is quiet, he is probably afraid everyone's left him. I only spray my cat with the water bottle when he's doing something bad at night, such as messing up the blinds or running like a lunatic.

i can't say as it has ever happened to me. but put him in bed with you or in a soft box. he's blind, and your spraying him?!?! no wonder he's crying! i would have run away too!

Buy a kitty box, find a huge fluffy blanket for him to curl up in and put in the box, and put him in the box at night, in the basement..

Yes, find a nicer home for blind kitty.

It appears that having a blind cat is having issues with your sleeping children so the choice is obvious. You either place kitty in a place where it feels secure at night or find a new home for kitty where he won't be sprayed for being blind.

Don't let him sleep during the day, it will take time but he will start sleeping at night, chances are that he sleeps during the day - most cats do, blind or not - and then stays up all night because he's gotten his rest while you haven't. Have a cat that used to walk all over me during the night wanting to play because she slept during the day, since I started keeping her up during the day, now she sleeps at night, same as me. It's doable, just takes time, try ot keep him around you during the day or have someone else do it if your at work during the day.
He's crying because he's probably senseing female cats who are in season, he's looking for them, has he been neutered? Male cats can smell females from a long distance away, and unbreed females go into season every 2-3 weeks if you didn't know.
Good luck and hopefully have a good nites sleep here soon.

Take him to the mall and get contact lenses!!!

i have a cat who is having a sexual identity crises. he is fixed but he is always jumping my poor other cat who cries because he is being bitten on the neck. i use the spray bottle to keep him off but unless my other male runs and hides, the gay one catches up. some nights this can go on all night long. i feel your pain. duct tape him to furthest place away from the kiddies. i came here to find some of my old funny contacts but they must be sleeping in due to our cats screaming all night and keeping them up.

Thank God I'm a dog person, that's all I've gotta say....!!! Lol!
