What does it mean when someone tells you that you're ahead of your time?!

Question: ...having the ability to see or feel beyond the present day society...
...examples that come to mind are Michael Angelo, Benjamin Franklin, Susan B. Anthony, Orson wells, Jules Verne, Steven Spielberg, to name a few...but one does not have to be shrouded in fame to be ahead of their time...my grandmother, for instance, was an open minded, free thinker...a strong woman when strength in women was considered un-lady-like...in a manner of speaking...she was one of my heros

um..you don't have to set the clock ahead until you go to bed maybe.

it either means that your smart, or you act very mature.

It's a polite way of saying Shut up you don't understand what your talking about and your annoying me.

It means you are knowledgeable beyond your years. very mature.

and the imprints you leave on life with last well beyond when you are gone.

Evelyn has it spot on.

A flexy time day off approaches.

Um.. Mood Indigo, I would like to add you as a contact, what do you think.
Thanks Regwah.

In the 60's it was a little joke. Some 'drug' users where called 'heads'. So the saying would go ' you are a 'head' of your time.
I assume you are not looking for the typical meaning, that someone's ideas or behaviour falls out of the 'norm', but we compliment their eccentricity by suggesting in the future such 'odd' behaviour will be recognized and accepted when such visionary innovations will have become common. It is often used in relation to inventors or creative folks who are 'starving' and broke during their life, but their work sells for a lot in the future. It is fun to think of it, relative to the view that we each have a 'time' to go, or die, and that to be ahead of it, means we are doing so well that fateful day is being pushed back. In a musical sense of 'timing' to be seen as a bit ahead of your time would be like being a bit out of synch. What I like aobut the concept of 'your time', is that it reflects that each of us has a unique quality of life to experience, and that to be 'ahead' of your time, would be like someone fully embracing their own individuality and forging ahead instead of working to become a robot or sheep in the material life.

It means that I am early for my appointment.

I think it means that the person acts wayy older then they really are. It's like they are an older person trapped in a younger person's body

I am sure you know..I have been told that my values are from a past era. Go figure.

Hopefully at my age it just means that I set the clock too far ahead and I got to my appointment too early!!!
