The saying is, "You can't go home again", but have you tried?!

Question: This question to me is stated metaphorically. It refers to the idea that you cannot recreate seeming idyllic past experiences i.e childhood, school days or your youth, even if you return to the spot where it occurred. For example, you may return to your parents home, but it is not going to feel the same way as it did when you shared it with them and your siblings. It is in this sense that you cannot go home again, and yes, many have tried.

I have. The locks had been changed.

Ya!
It happens a lot with my mum!
Shes always telling me to f**k off!
Shes mean!

there are two metaphors or euphinisms at work here:

1. suggests that you will never cross the same stream twice...because it is in constant motion.

2. the other is what I refer to the Odessious (sp?) phenomena from Homer's Odessey.... where Odessious is fighting every real or imagined barrier to return home to the one's he loves and regain his life back....

this trend can be piqued from The Wizard of Oz..... where Dorothy's epiphany at the end is something to the effect .....i'll never chase rainbows again, because if it's not in my own backyard, I don't need it

I think we all are chasing our own rainbows....and trying to find our way back home

i came "home" just to find out that strangers moved in....now all i wanna do is get far far away...
