You just brought back a wonderful memory of mine. My father (who raised 6 children by himself) used to sit us down on Saturday mornings and make simple syrup and pancakes. I remember sitting at the table and laughing and having the most wonderful experiences on those mornings, watching him show off, tossing the pancakes in the air and catching them in the skillet. He's gone now and I wish he could be here for just one more Saturday breakfast. Thank you for asking this question.

I agree with them, the number of ingredients is probably where the name comes from. My take is simple. I make a lot and simply pour it over hot fish or hot biscuits with butter. Then I simply eat it.
It is called that because it can be used in about anything. Most used in drinks, but pastries,foods where most other syrups can't.
Plus most other syrups take hours to make. (6hours being the least time.

Simple syrup is an oxymoron, it’s like saying tuna fish or asssless chaps...most tuna comes from fish (you don’t say hamburger cow) and all chaps are asssless.
