Question: Yes, I give the clerk, once chance to correct the error. If they get snotty, and tell me they did not make the error, I leave.
If they are polite or confused, I make sure they get the money back. Most store make clerks pay shortages on the cash drawer. If it on honest mistake, I can't see taking the money.

Once when i was in Partycity i had gotten a costume and went to the checkout line and got black lipstick to match. I had set it all down and then my mom paid for it and we left. I opened the bag when we got home and the lipstick was not accounted for and i was freaking out like non other. We just called, went over and paid for it.
