I TEND to do my own TRENDY thing.
I am not a public trend follower. For one, I never could see doing something that was going to last only a few days. Besides that, if one cannot accept me for who I am, in reality they won't accept me for the trend I follow. Maybe act like they do, but we all know that is how we have learned that friends come and go. Just like the trends they follow.
There are many definitions to trend as well. one being : A DEPARTURE TREND which is any sudden unexpected event that can be used by marketers for promotion. In other words spending money, I have better things to do than waste money. Another is psychiatric trend which is, Benign or morbid emotional interests, urges, and tendencies as revealed by postures, gestures, actions, or speech. I think I can care for my own psychiatric problems without the aid of my peers.
However, I know the question is about trend, the kind of trend that means to veer in a new direction with the general public. And as to that I would have to say the same as Andrei Platonov who was a great Russian writer and author, when he said " I have a trend of my own".

...I follow many interests, but not because they may be trendy, but because I like exploring positive avenues in many areas...if my interest happen to be trendy, then it's more likely a secondary affect rather than the other way around

I follow things that interest me. History, Science, Flight, Religious studies, Education studies, interpersonal relationships, and Sexual studies. Things in each of these have moved into and out of trends. What is fun is when people realize that some of these topics over lap and several people including myself are already on the other side. (NOT ALWAYS that would be arrogant.) It happens. Combining these subjects are very trendy. Make me scratch my head and wonder why.
