So I'm watching a movie and it made me think of a question....?!
Question: Do you think a state has the right to refuse two people to marry if they are mentally challenged? This movie is based on a true story of two highly functioning mentally challenged people that want to get married but the state won't let them. Does this seem fair? I mean, they don't require a license for people to breed (Britney Spears anybody?) but the state has a right to refuse to allow two people to marry even tho they are thoroughly committed to each other? I honestly didn't know that states do this! What are your thoughts?

Marriage isn't something that I think a state should be able to dictate, but.........
Britney is a perfect example of why they SHOULD.
have you ever heard of "manifest destiny"? they can, thats why.
I like britney.
They probably don't want them to reproduce.
Not saying that I agree, just saying.
it may not be fair but it happens all the time. i think that there are too many restrictions, rules and regulations on marraige. its like, you are only allowed to marry if the government approves...its really a bogus deal. my boyfriend and i discuss this alot and its gotten to the point that marraige is such a joke these days. we can have a wonderful and strong committed relationship w/out that little piece of paper and i dont plan on marrying until anyone who chooses to marry can.
nope
I don`t think the state has a right to do that . As you pointed out Britney doesn`t need a license to breed.I would suggest having no children..depending on the level of mental challenge. It should be based on an individual case.Just my thoughts.
