Ha ha that happened to my aunt. Still to this day she doesn't know what she did wrong. Alcohol is such a wonderful thing.

Just once. Band I was playing with got stranded in Alexandria, Virginia. No money, almost out of gas, and only a check from our last gig on a Sunday afternoon. No way to solve the problem. The lead guitar player was an honorary sheriff in Nashville, Tennessee. He told us he had a solution to our problem. So we went to the county jail, where he flashed his badge, explained our predicament, and got us all escorted to a cell. We played and entertained till about 2 in the morning, got a few hours sleep, and then one of the sheriffs went and got us enough gas to get going. We got the check cashed and went on our merry way, but I got to spend a night in a jail cell though technically the door was open.
