I used to do my share of drinking but my ulcer won't let me drink at all... just a little bit of alcohol makes me sick... I don't smoke either, so life is no longer worth living.
They like to remain in control.

Maybe they have their own reasons such as an alky in the family or a bad experience the first time they tried it.
It's their choice and you can't be influencing them by saying that it's Ok.
I initially chose not to drink because I was trying to become pregnant and was aware of the damage alcohol can cause to an unborn baby, but now I choose not to drink (sometimes :D) simply because I don't want to worry about the hangover and/or the grotty aftertaste in my mouth after a few drinks.
Since I've reduced my drinking, I've also realised that sometimes a non-alcoholic drink is more refreshing than an alcoholic one (and this is from a girl who still loves drink!)

The reason I don't drink is because I watched my parents, my aunt and uncle, my friends' marriages break up due to alcoholism. I've also seen what it can do to children of alcoholic parents and watched my sister battle her own alcohol demons over the past 10 years.
Reason enough for me.
I don't drink because it gives me horrible heartburn.
sum people regret makin an idiot out of themselves while been drunk so don't, some get very bad hangovers the day after so feel better not drinking
