they are just living out a fantasy that they're secret agents on a secret mission talking on their secret phone to their secret boss and nobody else can listen in.
It makes life and the phone call more tolerable.

no...i am in america and people dont usually stop and squat just to talk on the phone....places like new york you would be trampled!

Maybe they realise they are chatting s.. and feel the need to assume the position. The subconscious is a powerful thing.
Cant say i noticed that although my son said he has. What i have noticed is that people just cant stand still , my friends walk all round the house. Myself i like to get comfortable especially if its gossip.
