Why are people so opposed to different ways of thinking?!
Question: ignorance. lack of education. societal pressures. the list goes on but its not really important. we are who we are regardless of how much somebody else doesnt like it. it changes nothing.

I tried to hear everyside and different ways of thinking
their tiny worlds would collide and come crashing down if its not they way they think its supposed to be like. those same people think that we are it in this universe too
Fear of the unknown.
It is always the worst type of fear, and it is usually brought on by ignorance.
Educating oneself about something you know nothing about, defeats the fear. One does not have to accept the other train of thought, but at least understand the motivation.
I believe that a lot of people have been brain washed so they only know and see what they have been taught
So they can not see past that..
Also , many people think that their way is right and only their way..
Some people just have no real sight ...
and some people it just really scares them to step out side of their own box.
It throws them out of their comfort zone and they feel threatened.
It's easier to see differences than similarities. They're surrounded by people who are less different, then get shaken up by people who are more different. They don't see the similarities between the two, and how we can live in harmony.
I do not know. I think that people should accept and respect others beliefs, and let them be who they are.
Because if its a different and new way of thinking- the unknown is terrifying to some people. They would rather stay where they KNOW what is going on and its all predictable then live with the unchartered waters and explore new things and thoughts. The unknown is the scariest place ever
i'm not sure... maybe it's because they don't want the competition... so they won't have to prove themeselves... they can just be automatically the "best" if there is no other way of thinking, so that is why they oppose others so much...
I think it is because those people have superiority complexes. They think that they are superior, therefore their beliefs are superior, and everyone else who don't believe the same way are ignorant or stupid.
Because thay are so narrow-minded...
And different ways of thinking would reveal how intellectually poor (and retarded) they really are...
All religious fanatics (and communist regimes) are model example about typical people who oppose alternative ways of thinking...
Reveal new ways of thinking for example in Iran or P.R.C. and will certainly be arrested immediately...

I'd say fear. Fear of loosing everything that makes them feel secure, of loosing the values that have been built around them thus loosing their protection.
A different way of thinking would mean a new perspective on life, a new perspective of themselves and they might not like what they see, or fear it.
Everyone likes to think they have it figured out. Entertaining opposing thoughts jeopardizes their little fiefdom.
