To all Americans, do you think that 'only in America' is freedom?!

Question: Pinky asked a question,'what are you proud of in your country', and nearly every American used the word free, apart from a handful of countries, the rest of the world are living free, and have freedom of speech, I just wondered if it is installed through your education

My darling I am an American and I can tell you, most certainly not.
Freedom, true freedom, is perhaps beyond the capacity for us to attain. However, we can enjoy parts of freedom, bits and pieces that is.
Americans, for the most part are denied access to reasonable health care unless they can afford it. Is this freedom? Perhaps, in the industrial powerhouse that America has become, we might consider providing health care for those who need it most.
But we do not, because Americans were fooled into thinking that they do not need anyone else, indeed we are told that we are masters of our own future, which is true in part, except that our government is owned by big business.
I am madly in love with the idea of my country, but decidedly frightened at the reality.

I don't think that "only" in america is freedom, i'm sure that there are other countries which give you freedom, just in a different style.
A different government can change many things.

Americans are very proud to live in a free country. It's a simple as that. We are also very proud to be American and are patriotic.

Oh Krissy, I've made it my goal to answer all of your questions today (and Dolly's)

How am I supposed to answer this one?

OK, here goes - the Yanks enjoy all the same freedoms we do in the UK. They are not silly or stupid people, they fully realise that most of the world enjoy similar freedoms.
That does not stop them being proud of their nation and it's achievements

How did I do? You'll have to find a harder one for me LOL

I would say yes to the last part of your question. From the beginning of American history class we learn about how we had to fight for our freedom to become our own country, not just once but many times. The American Revolution, Civil War, WW1, WW2 etc.
I don't think enough world history is taught in schools these days. I find any history interesting, so I'm always studying it even though I've been out of school for over 25years. Of course I know that other countries have freedoms and had to also fight for theirs.

Well spotted, perhaps it is installed in their education, they have the flag in all their classrooms so they're probably reminded of it a lot. The Presidents seem to use the word a lot too.

I think they are just grateful to be in one of those countries that are free, instead of being in a 3rd world country where you are imprisoned for any little thing you say or do or have limited freedom altogether. . . I'm sure they realize Europe and other countries do have freedom too but they aren't comparing their freedoms to others that are free but rather they are just thankful to live in one.
