Why is individuality important in American culture?!

Because that is why the pilgrims came here. They didn't want to conform to the thoughts and ways everyone across the pond. Our nation is founded on it and now we love it.

People say it is but the truth is if you stand out from the crowd too much, you're gonna get bashed. You have to blend in somewhat.

why do you think americans have made so many scientific/other discoveries? they are allowed to think outside the box. Not taught to live my one thing, and one thing onlly, not forbidden to step over the boundaries ever. Same goes for canadians too you know.. :)

yes individuality is very important to any culture

To tell the truth, I did not know that it was, because, all my life (I am an old man) teamwork (or whatever the catch phrase of the day was) has been the main thing. NO ONE EVER emphasised individuality at any time at any place during my entire life, which seems strange, as individucals, not teams, or groups, or whathave you, invent things, write books, get things done.
