Ive lived in both areas so I will take on the southern stereotypes since that's where I live now
I hate that people think all southerners are hillbillies with 2 teeth and live in trailers and they all love nascar

I'm from Scotland and understand what you are saying and believe me these sorts of sterotypes happen all over and like you I dont like it - peopel generalise through ignorance when mostly they have never met the real people of that region - its just they way some people are !!
sterotypes are mean..and threr's nothing more to it.
