i waited for like 45 minutes to talk to the stupid alltel people, who was foreign didnt really speak english and didnt even answer my question, boy was i pissed off.

It depends on what I have going on at the time, and if the phone I'm on has a speaker option. If nothing else is going on, and I have the phone on speaker I'll wait as long as it takes. If I'm in a hurry and have to hold the phone you can say forget it.

All just depends on what I'm doing at the time..and what I'm holding for.
If it's important and I get sick of holding the phone, I'll just put my phone on speaker phone...
If it's a cell phone? I'd try calling back on a land line...and then maybe they'll get to me a bit faster..
