My cats know exactly what I'm saying and don't care in the least.
My cats understand some of the things I say like "nummies" "wa-wa" (lol) "basement" "scratchy scratchy" "wanna play", etc.
I think animals are smarter than most people think. They understand me definately.
lol.. I feel my dog does the same also at times.. But he does it because he knows what he's doing.. So I guess he's smarter than I think after all. But other times, he seems to act accordingly to my wishes.

he doesn't, he's a dog. He's not doing things to spite you either as the concept is probably beyond him... Problem is you probably have an untrained dog and now he won't do what you want which is why you should train them.

oh yeah... especially when food is around.
Animal Training is usually effective if the commands are used often with proper consequences.
Example:
If you say NO and he doesn't follow, give him a time-out in his cage.
If you say COME HERE and he comes near you, reward him with something he likes to eat.
It's all about balancing punishments and rewards.
