Well, let's see...the average tree contains approx. 480 board feet of usable lumber. The average toothpick dimension is approx. 1/16"x2"...Therefor: given that a board foot equals 12" x 12" x 1"...
12" / 0.0625" = 192qty
&
12" / 2" = 6qty
&
192qty x 6qty = 1,152qty
&
1,152qty x 16qty = 18,432qty (per board foot)
&
18,432qty x 480 board feet = 8,847,360 toothpicks.
However, the waste factor (as toothpicks are round typically) must be factored...along with saw kerfs that turn to dust. Just a guess that the saw kerf is close to 0.0625", that would cut your above total in half twice.
8 toothpicks x 96 toothpicks = 768 toothpicks x 6 toothpicks = 4,608 toothpicks/board foot x 480bf = 2,211,840 toothpicks per tree.
