1. Use to polish silver
2. Protect your shoes when painting by slipping mismatched socks over them.
3. When packing for a trip, slip old mismatched socks over your shoes to protect them.
4. Slip a lone sock over a baby's bottle to use as a cozy.
5. When packing glass items such as a jar of pickles or ketchup to take on a picnic or camping, slip them inside clean mismatched socks.
6. Dusting Rag. Slip an old sock on your hand to make dusting easy. Socks pick up dust from furniture easily, and wearing your duster on your hand makes dusting practically effortless.
7. Rice Warmer. Put a few handfuls of long grain rice into an old sock and secure tightly with a rubber band. This is not a good use for a sock with a hole! Warm your rice warmer in the microwave for a minute or so, and use it to warm your feet at night or to relieve a back, neck or headache.
8. Shoe Polisher. Rather than ruining one of your good rags for shoe polishing, employ an old sock. The soft fabric is a good buffer and will give your shoes a nice shine.
9. Car Polisher. As with polishing shoes, using an old sock to polish or wax your car, will act as a nice buffer and shine your car up well.
10. Tidy Pedicure. Use old socks to protect your bedding while giving yourself an overnight pedicure. Rub Vaseline or another thick cream on your feet and cover them with old socks. Overnight your feet with be moisturized and softened, all without getting anything sticky on your bed sheets.
11. Sock Puppet. Make a sock puppet out of a single sock. Sew on buttons for eyes and use yarn to sew a mouth. You could also have your kids decorate sock puppets using puff paints or permanent fabric markers. Sock puppets make a great rainy day play item.
12. FoxTail. Put a tennis ball or similar object in the toe of an old sock and tie a knot in the sock. Take your new foxtail toy to the park with a friend. and have fun slinging it back and forth. Holding on to the top of the sock, swing the toy around and let go to launch it.
