Raising awareness for Lupus.

My sister looked normal- 135 lbs, long black hair, normal beige skin tone. I have a photo of her at a wedding in October 2004 and she looked lovely. The following January, she developed rashes on her face and arms. By March she was covered in body-wide, open lesions. Lupus, a genetic autoimmune disease, most commonly attacks joints, muscles (causing extreme pain), internal organs (commonly kidney, heart, liver and brain). In my sister's case, it attacked her skin. She now weighs 190 lbs (from the steroids she must take to suppress the Lupus) and has the joints of a 70 year-old woman. She's 32. Since the symptoms are aggravated by ultra-violet light, she can no longer go in the sunlight and must wear special clothing to go outside, ride in a car, or sit near a window.

People who don't know her look at her like she's a monster. Before she was diagnosed, the medical community treated her like she was crazy- like the pain was all in her head and he sores were just the result of her scratching at a rash from laundry detergent or other such nonsense...

Over 1.5 million Americans suffer from Lupus, but the majority of Americans do not even know what it is.

wow, see that's a tough one.. there are sooooo many good causes..

My daughter would want me to say saving the dolphins, because at the age of 3 she knew that when she 'grew up' she wanted to be a dolphin trainer.. but i watched Hayden Panetera and her efforts, and must say was heart broken...

Now for me, if i could pause my emotions, i would want to help abused children or the forgotten elderly. For they have NOTHING wrong with them, other than they were cast aside. It's not a hard thing to do to show someone love, which we all have to spare. Making someone else feel good is a rewarding thing to do, because not only are they better, you are better for it... "what you do for the least of my people you do onto me" J.C.

I said about pausing my emotions, I would love to help out the sick children, or sick elderly, hell, anyone who is sick, but knowing that they could die, I just don't think I could handle that.

Great question, though.
