Question: I work with this lady. She was telling us about a car she borrowed from her step daughter - wires hanging all over the place. The only door you can get in on is the passenger front door & that is the only window that opens. When I asked her how on earth it passed inspection she said "girl, this is the hood. None of us bother with things like that". She said they buy stickers & switch them from car-to-car.

Pardon me. The people that do this are different HOW? I keep my car in good shape. I make sure it's inspected, etc. I don't want a faulty vehicle maybe causing an accident & injuring someone else. Do the people that do this just not give a darn about things like this & only care about themselves? What makes them so above the law? Just another example of working the system it seems.

People who have ins pay for their own repairs when hit by people like this. Then their ins goes up. It happened to my mom. Unfair totally. Lady that hit her was driving a Caddy.

Some people think that laws do not apply to them and they just do whatever they can get by with doing, as long as they do not get caught. Anytime you talk to a person who admits that they do not bother with certain things that are important and required by law, and yet they never seem to get in trouble, simply means that they are concerned only about themselves and they aren't law abiding citizens. People who are are not concerned with abiding by the law means that they are only thinking about themselves and they don't
care whether they break the laws or not. This boils down to being selfish, inconsiderate of others and irresponsible deadbeats. Their way of thinking is 'why should I do something that is going to cost me money if I can manage to scrape by without it?' And why do the policemen let these cars get by with these types of neglect if they are ever stopped for traffic violations? Part of the problem is that we don't have enough policemen to pull people over and give out tickets when the cop knows that the car could not possibly have passed inspection. Some people like your co-worker know this is the case and when cities do not have nearly enough manpower to stop every crappy, suspicious looking vehicle, then these types of people are always going to get away with stuff like this. It's not that these people are above the law so much as it their lack of concern,
not enough manpower to enforce laws on vehicle inspections, and
vehicles that could not possibly pass an emissions test or a safety inspection don't get stopped. Lots of people like this also tend to take back roads where the police do not tend to hang out as much as they do on many of the major roads and busy freeways.

I agree with you that it is wrong for only certain people to abide by the laws when it comes to maintaining and insuring vehicles when everyone should be held accountable, but there simply are not enough officers of the law out there to go around and catch all of the deadbeats that get by with breaking the laws. I know that some
folks can't afford to drive anything but junkers. But if the Fed Govt would impose some sort of law to where any vehicle over ten years
old, or if a car is damaged enough to where it looks dangerous for it to be on the road, were pulled over and impounded in the junk and body shops, maybe we could get the crummy, unsafe looking vehicles off of the roads, and perhaps we would not have as many people driving unsafe, uninsurable vehicles. However, we have so many murderers, rapists, embezzlers, thieves, junkies, drug lords, people that don't pay their income taxes, and other jerks in our jails
that jails are way too overcrowded to put folks like your coworker in
jail or to even check out the vehicle she is driving and impound it.

Personally, I am like you and I agree that this just another one of life's unfair breaks. I keep my vehicle maintained, good shape, all of my stickers up-to-date and it is fully insured. When someone carelessly pushes a grocery cart out of the way and they do not bother to look back to see if they hit someone else's car with it, then they should be given a ticket, even if it is on private property, such as the big chain shopping centers. When that ticket is due, if the person who was ticketed doesn't pay it, then make them spend time in county jail until the ticket is paid. Normally, that happens to people driving with expired tags on their vehicle when they get pulled over for a routine traffic stop. If drivers do not have their vehicle insured for liability or they get a ticket and all their stickers are not up-to-date, then after they are given a ticket and they miss the court date, then issue a warrant for their arrest. If people ever get caught with an outstanding warrant, then they should have to serve jail time and also pay a whopping fine. As long as people continue to keep getting by with these types of violations without being punished, they are going to continue to doing them.

They aren't above the law, they just haven't been caught yet.

people like this dont really give a damn and thats the reason that auto insurance rates are so high.

I think people see it as a way to not buckle under to a system that is just out to get money from them.

I'm with you Lilith. What I want to know is how they get away with it! I'd get caught.

Alot of people think the law does not apply to them. I see it every day in my business. Doesn't surprise me. They are just low-life people.

I totally agree with you, I keep my truck clean, well maintained and legal

In Some Urban Areas, Enforcement "looks The other way"...!!

well first of all people who drive cadillacs own the road, it says so in the sales agreement they sign. they think they have the right of way all the time just because their car is 5 feet longer than mine. idiots. I don't know why this woman thinks she can get away with not having her car inspected, but eventually if she's in an accident hopefully someone will sue her @$$ and they'll take away her license for having a car that caused an accident. hopefully she doesn't hurt anyone.

I'm not sure when you had this conversation with your co-worker...but you have prompted a follow up question, rather than an answer. If such a thing is so upsetting, can I assume you have notified the registry of motor vehicles regarding the fraud this woman has committed? People learn lessons after they are taught. She isn't going to tell them herself and learn a lesson...someone else has to do it.

They haven't been caught yet. That's why the "No-Fault Insurance " in Michigan is a joke. It's now the largest state expense after prisons. Good job lawmakers.

Oh God!!!!! I will be so upset....because people like that are on the street causing accident everyday and people like us that have to paid the price for our ins. going up or line-up paying for the damage ourself....It made me very mad!!!!!!!

Not everyone lives in your reality.

I've driven a very similar-sounding crap-heap for the last decade.

I keep good tyres on it but it's certainly no pristine automobile..
Have I had insurance in that time? - no.
Have I had an accident in that time? - yes....& it cost me...& I paid up...

I repeat - not everybody lives in your reality.....it would be more beneficial to get over it.

the system is counting on the Marjory to conform. The system also knows, that all will not conform.
so the conformers pay for the none conformers.
The system gains control through fear. Some people are not afraid.

I believe it. I see things like that all the time. Unfortunately they don't get caught often enough. And even when they do, they just toss the fines in the garbage and carry on as if it never happened.
