In all seriousness, I am for it.

I reside in the bunghole state of Nebraska, and they just repealed the use of the electric chair as a means of execution.

Why?

It was considered "cruel and unusual".

I can't argue too much with that thinking, but if a person commits a horrendous crime, such as murder, esp. in a gruesome and torturous manner, why should the convicted be given a "pleasant" way to die?

In the local paper, they gave examples of some of the crimes men commited, and one involved a piece of crap who killed his girlfriend's little baby boy of 3 years old...and dismembered his body...and kept it in the home with the woman's knowledge to intimidate her.

Should someone feel sympathy for someone like him?

Why should he be allowed to live?

Too many people sit on death row for too long as it is. The process needs to be speeded up.

To risk having someone of this nature live is beyond comprehension.

Yes, prisons can provide security against escapes, and I can't argue too much against life sentences, BUT it costs A LOT of money for you and I to allow the convicted to live, not to mention the risk of escape.

Yes, some people may even be innocent on death row, BUT the statistics of this are low. It may sound cruel, but it is bound to happen, yet we have to accept it if we want to protect our loved ones, ESPECIALLY our children.

How many murderers have escaped prison and murdered again while free? Almost every one.

only if that person tortured and killed someone else

i am against it
i just don't like it

for
too many bad people get let out on parole and commit more crimes destroying lives

I'm for

don't know why they keep'em alive as long as do?

no Im not some crimes deserve it just from the fact the act was so Heinous in nature.

Ethically I am forbidden to ever participate in one

For it. Jails are overcrowded as it is and I'm sick of my tax dollars going to help fund a criminal's time in jail. We aren't killing enough convicts.

Against. Too many end up on death row and executed who are wrongfully convicted. Severe austere punishment to the full extent of the law.

i don't know...
- we could make mistake and sentence someone to death.
- how can we behave in the same way that they ( killer ) did.

i am against it because police should not have the right to kill people it is gods time to take people away from this world.. my uncle almost got the death penalty. but god didn't say it was his time to leave this world.

In principle, I'm against it. Because it is cruel.

But I don't feel sorry for the condemned if he was guilty of murdering a great number of people...

What is one life compared to a great number of lives that were lost?...

I believe monsters deserve to die. What constitutes a monster? Someone who rapes and murders multiple people. someone who intentionally kills children, someone who tortures multiple people and commits crimes against humanity resluting in suffering and death of more than two people.

If a person comes home, finds his signifgant other cheating and kills that person, no death penalty, but Life in prison. If that same person kills both people, same thing, life in prison because he or she went nuts. Now...if that same person kills whole family, death penalty.

Because montsters do not deserve to live

I go back and forth but in the end I'm for it.

Against, with pragmatic reasons. You don't have to sympathize with criminals or want them to avoid terrible punishments for terrible crimes to ask if the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime, to look at alternatives and to think about the risks of executing innocent people. This topic deserves facts with credible sources.

127 people on death rows released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA, available in less than 10% of all homicides, can’t guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.

The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reliable study shows the death penalty deters others. To deter others a punishment must be sure and swift. The death penalty is neither. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in those that don’t.

We have a good alternative, life without parole, on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. It is sure, swift and rarely appealed. Life without parole costs less than the death penalty.

The death penalty costs much more than life in prison, mostly because of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.

The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?

The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members have testified that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.

Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speed up the process and we will execute innocent people.

For child molesters, rapists and murderers. Prisons have revolving doors for this scum, and as far as molesters and rapist go, there is no cure and the odds are another innocent child or woman will be the next victim. Even tho they did not murder, they have changed and scarred a life forever.
