The Beatles are definitely the biggest. This is how big they were....I grew up after the band's time, and when I was little, I didn't know that beetles was spelled with two e's! I seriously thought that it was spelled the way the band spelled it. I didn't realize until later it was a pun.

Band popularity having an effect on educational tendencies...

But U2 comes in first for having the most "meaningful" messages in their songs.

And The Rolling Stones are just classic.

    I would say U2 simply because of the technology and mass marketing available to them. If all 3 started out at the same time in the 80's through today, had availed themselves of web technology, satellite networks, mp3 advancements, MTV overkill, product tie-ins, etc - I could better guage the impact.
    rolling stones. proper rock n roll band. beatles were a boy band to start with and U2 have bonio so that rules them out
