There's a difference between forgiving someone and giving them a second chance. Forgiveness is necessary because you don't want to hold on to negative feelings and end up bitter and miserable. Just because you forgive someone, doesn't mean you have to act foolishly and put yourself in the exact same position for them to break your heart again.
Remember, "Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice, Shame on me."
Sometimes it really is best to just move on and start fresh. =)
