yes i have in australia we jhave a name for it its called cooks tours nmaed after james cook the first pommie here who allways took longer to get to places because he went on little side treks anyway i do a cookie almost every trip visiting sometimes i get sortof lost which is very easy to do in this country because its sooo big
On Christmas Eve I took the long way to my in-laws cause I was on a phone call that I couldn't be on there, so yes, I didn't want that call to end, at that time...
Many other times I've "taken the long way home", so to speak, for lots of different reasons.

When my Dad was sick and close to death I would walk home from school sometimes, about a three hour walk from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, to my home in East Vancouver. It helped me think and reinforced how small my problems where compared with how big the world is.
Yes I have taken the long way home! I sometimes do it on purpose because of an accident, traffic is bad, or I have to take a detour because the Dept. of Transportation has a particular road shut down. Other times, my mind is so preoccupied thinking about other things, I'll miss the exit and have to go a long way out of my way just to turn around.
