I loved that song. In high school it was a question on our final English exam to analyze it. I made it totally not about drugs and simply a children's tale. My teacher gave me full marks for as he said "Backing everything up..though I disagree with your conclusion."
He made me 'mad' insisting it was about drugs. LOL!

I used to hear that on some kiddee show. mid-60's, probably Captain Kangaroo.
When I got older, and got myself "edgey-cated" I learned that at the same time, teens of the day thought it was code for smoking weed, and whatever else.
I play with this cat that stays inside this store that I frequent. The cat's name is "Spot."

Wouldn't want a dragon for a pet. Anything reptilian distresses me. But I have been known to puff the magic dragon every now and then.

A fire breathing dragon always sounded a little scary to me...even Puff.
