there's an old saying, "you can't judge a book by its cover."

in the 1980's, i often saw a raggedly-dressed, unshaven man sitting in the same spot each day with a sign, "will work for food." eventually, the local paper exposed him as a pretender - he actually owned and drove a recent-model cadillac, owned his own home and had good clothes, food and medical insurance - and a wife who dropped him off at the corner every day to do his panhandling! the sign was a ploy to make people think he was sincere, so they would donate money even though he wasn't directly asking for it.

early in life, my father taught me to offer to buy a beggar a meal, and my experience has confirmed what he predicted - most decline the offer because they want the cash to buy alcohol or drugs - habits i'm not rich enough to indulge in myself, so why would i pay for their bad habits?

but if someone truly needs food & clothing, shelter or medical care, i offer time and money, within my means, to help them.

give them a few dollars

it depends :d
i don't wanna talk too much about it cuz u'll never know when i'll be homeless too lol:)

the second one........ never give a homeless person money, they ask for more...

Offer Money

I take him and get him something to eat.

usually i keep walking, i can barely meet my own needs, he needs to get a job and there r LOTS out there, even if it's McDs

Honestly....I keep walking and bury my head...I am so flat broke I can barely pay for myself.

i dont give money, unless maybe they are selling the big issue

I don't give $$ but I'll go lunch and take it back to them

I keep walking ....due to the fact I catch them later with a cold suit case of beer or crack ....... So I feel they can toddle off to a shelter or relief agency to get help.... Not Cash !

I DO BOTH SOME ARE TRICKSTERS SO I DON'T GIVE THEM SOME GENUINELY DON'T HAVE IT

When I go to Toronto or New York I give them whatever change I have in my pockets.

well im still a teen so i dont have money of my own..

but if i did.. not now because id need it if i ever had..

when im older though of course

Better to give food and or drink! down and outs have a habit of spending money on drink and they will never get of the streets. Also a lot of them actually are making a good living out of people's generosity i.e. they are lying and actually have a home ....you are just paying them a bonus!

i give what i can
Every light casts a shadow. Every certainty hides a doubt. Every success stems from a failure. Every hope hides a fear. Oh, and of course... they do say that love and hate are but two sides of one coin. All I'm trying to point out is that there's good in what you now feel prone to perceive as bad... and vice versa. There's nothing now that can't be changed for the better if that's what you want. And there's also very little that can't be made to stay the same if you are determined to keep progress at bay.

Well if I have extra money I will,if I don't then srry pal

Walk on by...!!

walk on by

dependz... if they are like the ones who are in good shape and CAN GET A JOB BUT R TOO LAZY TOO. I DINT GIVE THEM MONEY!!!

BUT IF THEY ARE NOT IN SHAPE TO GET A JOB THEN I GIVE THEM MONEY THE MOST I HAVE GIVVEN TOO A PEROSON IS 10 DOLLARS!....

I FEEL BAD FOR THEM..... THEY ARE JUST HUMANS LIKE US TOO....!!!

GOD SAYS HELP MY PPL N I WILL HELP U!!.....

I could spare them a few bucks.
It would make me feel less selfish and I know I'd be helping out. Even though I don't know exactly what they'll do with the money.

i have enough of my own to feed, if i have any spare money id buy him a hotdog, i know it wouldnt go on booze then......

I would give them all the money that I had in my pocket. I seriously just feel so bad for them. Once I was on the train and a man was holding a bucket for children who were sick and for homeless famalies. So I gave him $5 which was for lunch. So that day I had no lunch.. but it was for the good. :]

I've never seen anyone like that in my town. I do hope I would help the less fortunate though.

I usually give them food otherwise a few dollars. They may not not use the money for food, but I've always tried to look for the good in people, hoping they will do the right thing with it.
