I know I should probably go to ebay to ask this but?!

Question: If you put something big like furniture chest etc-- how do you know how much to charge for shipping?

Your best bet is to do local pick up only on large furniture items. Because to ship something that large you are looking at freight shipping and we are talking hundreds of dollars.

normally big items are listed as 'buyer must collect' as the shipping costs will be massive

You sell it locally and the buyer has to pick it up. I met a neat boy that way.

leave it open and paid by the buyer

1) Call UPS. Get a quote, and charge accordingly.
2) Look up similar items on EBay. Find out what the "going rate" is.
3) Have the buyer pick it up.

google truck freight companies, but it really depends where it is going and how it will be unloaded,

you can list it as call for freight , buyer to arainge shipping or local pick up only

Find out in advance appproximately how much it will cost to ship then add it to the asking price. Then you can come up with your own figure for shipping & handling.

What I used to do for big items was give the weight, size, my zip code, packaging cost, and put in a link to shipping companies so the bidders could get their own price or at least a general idea of the freight costs.

call a trucking company or a moving co. give them the weight and zipcode and they will tell you. to get zips go to post office. when you get your info then you can post it

Note: Buyer Must Pay....!!
