I wouldn't make an excuse,if your performance,time keeping,absences etc. weren't acceptable I'd just tell you.If it was for anything else I'd tell you the truth then you may not make the same mistake in your next employment.
If I was your boss why would you give me a reason to sack you? OK here goes, I would sack you if you were often late, rude to other workers, was not discreet about our work, used your mobile phone during working hours, used the company's phone for personal calls (a few would be acceptable), used the Internet when you should be working, took too many days off sick and were seen shopping instead, but worst of all - made a pass at my boyfriend lol!!!
