While I was in Japan, many years ago, I tried a dish called "darning needles." Basically, the recipe involves taking the thorax of a large dragonfly, one about the size of one of your little fingers, stuffing it with minced vegtable and fish paste, coating it with tempura batter, and deep fat frying it. Darning needles had very little taste, other than from the tempura and a generic fishy flavor from the fish paste. The dragonflies were raised commercially.
