I think that a lot of girls go to parties or large social engagements with high expectations. They spend weeks picking out an outfit, and spend the day doing their make up.
Finally, the big night comes ... and if things don't go as they'd imagined (eg, not getting picked up by a guy while all her friends are off with guys, or seeing an ex with a gorgeous new date) things get bitter for the girl.
It's natural.

That is SOOO FUNNY. True. I have noticed that. It is probably because either one of her friends was being a b tch or her boyfriend was being a jerk to her.
Well, in middle school it was usually because of a boy asked a girl to dance and she said no and felt bad. Also he could ask her and it only be a joke when she thinks he likes her. Most people I know grew out of crying at parties in high school.
