I would go with the once - may as well get it all at once then i could pay off my house, buy my son a house, set us up and invest the rest. (lol, my sons 6months old, so we might rent that one out until hes a bit older)

Once. If the million was invested the interst would be paid from the start, but if there were 2 ￡500,000 investments you would loose out on the interest on the second ￡500,000 for the time period in between. Lottery wins are not subject to tax.
