Poll: Did you ever experience a very heavy blizzard snow storm?!

Question: Wow, per Yahoo: No similar questions found

We are in the middle of one in the Chicago area of the US right now. It is heavy snow with high winds which reduce how far you can see. Right now it is less then a 100 feet. Everything looks all white, ground and sky, plus you can not see far. Fun stuff, ..... not!

I live about four hours north of Chicago and we have snow with forty mile an hour winds gusting to fifty. It is minus five without the wind chill. We had five inches last Friday and nine inches eight day ago. Good times.

ya, i live in CO so...

there was one in the 90's in New York and since then, none could compare, it was the best day of my life! hahah

YOU are on quite a roll with these ground breaking questions!

Not only have I experienced them(Rochester, NY) but I was born during one of THE worst snow-storms in 1977.

I'm about 60 miles west of you. The wind is howling outside, not much snowfall, but I'd be surprised if we have electricity in the morning.

yes i've been in one driving...it's not fun. we were stranded and couldn't keep driving (we were on a long distance trip) and we had to find a motel to stay at overnight till visibility cleared

Yes, unfortunately .... It would have to be a dire emergency to get me out in it .....

Yeah, now. Could hardly see 2 feet in front of my car on the way home from work.

Just south of you in Indiana, we got wind, tornadoes, rain and more wind...it is 35 degrees colder than it was this afternoon. Two people got killed in one of the tornadoes. Lots of damage. But we did not get any snow.

Many times and driving in it is the pits, but we've done it. We are expecting some high winds about 100km an hr. which won't be the first time. Don't you just LOVE winter? Not me.
We live in southern Ontario, Canada.

that sucks ...unless you have plenty of food and alcohol......i havent been in one in a few years i was living in fla for the last 3 years but moved back north i moved to de but im orginally from philly ....but i dont think we get them as bad as you do there

join the club. i live in wisconsin and we're going through the exactly the same thing as u. email me at kyrstin_weber@yahoo.com

There are two different times that I remember truly blizzard conditions. One was in the late 70's and I was very sick and I was hospitalized for 3 weeks. When I came out and walked into my yard, the snow had been plowed, but it was much higher than my head and pretty much everything was buried.. That winter went down in history as one of the worst. The snow was so continuous that town crews didn't know where to put the snow and snowbanks were so high everywhere. The other bad storm was around the mid 90's and I had 2 new puppies. It snowed so long and hard that my son drove down in his jeep from another state and made tunnels for the puppies to walk through. They didn't know what to make of all that snow and they were so little. I still have a picture of my car which looks like nothing more than a snowball.

Yes, we heard about your weather all the way over here in sunny California. I haven't seen much of the sun, it's been wet and gray and it's coming your way. Bwuah ha haaaa.

I have experienced blizzards, but the most intense times came about whilst camping out. We get to the top of Horsetail Falls, half climb, half hike, when these big fat snow flakes started falling. Set up the tent and the ground was already covered. Then the wind started up. After an hour the wind was howling through the tree branches and doing a fairly good imitation of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on acid. Inside the tent, we didn't get any sleep all night, too busy trying to keep the tent from getting ripped out from under us. The next morning the storm was gone, the sun was out, the snow crystals glittered in rainbow colors, snowdrift was halfway up the side of the tent, and that's only because we kept knocking it off the sides all night. Fun stuff, . . . YES!

Sure have, I live in Nebraska and am a relief snowplow driver.
Whiteouts and blizzards no one should be trying to go anywhere. Seen wrecks a many.

I guess this would be a BAD time to talk about living in Southern California. lol Sorry ... I had to give you some cr*ap! Of course, this is the reason so many people move here and now we're worse off in many other ways. I'm actually tired of the sun ... it gets too hot here. My goal is to move somewhere with a small amount of snow and summers that don't melt the sidewalk.

Obviously ... Chicago is out of the equation! ha!

Stay safe and keep warm!!

Peace to you.
