Why do they force criminals to do volunteer work?!

Question: If they're forced, they aren't volunteers, right?

Answers: If they're forced, they aren't volunteers, right?

maybe they need a new name for it

its called community service not volunteer work. funny thought though.

It's true. Either way, they're doing something positive for society. Makes more sense than a fine.

Someone has to do it...it's free employees for the government and community service for the criminal. Win...Win Right?

Its a way of giving back to society.

there not getting paid for it so it kinda is

they may do something for the taxes honest people pay for the food that that criminals eat in jail

It is more the principle of the matter...they harmed society, they need to repay. I wish it worked better though!

because whoever they were rented out from gets paid for the work they do. And because they think doing something good for the community is rehabilitating.

So they can give back to the community and see how it is to do something good. And who else better to do it?

Umm, nope they would be prisoners....

repaying their debt to society.

so they aren't wasting time and doing somehting right to make up for what they did.

i dont think they were force to commit the crime either...

It is called community service, not volunteer work.

just the way the judicial system works

they force them to do it because it takes up time when they may be commiting crimes.

If you see them on the highway picking up garbage, they do that to humilate them. It's suppose to deter them from commiting more crimes.

If they make them volunteer at special needs places, it's to humble them and let them see just how bad life really can be.

dude to pay their debt to society... Alot of people come to jail on failre to pay child support, so the state in turn writes the other parent a check for the anoubt of child support owed and the accused has to work it off while being incarcerated.

they do the same to us--so called free pepole eH

They are incentives in order to receive such things as increased privileges or reduced time. For example, exchange 10 days county jail for 7 days of work release (volunteer work).

THe positive side of it, criminals do the most worst jobs that most people wont want to, balancing out our society on things that just need to be done.

For example, cleaning garbages and waste. Who do you think cleans the inside holding tanks of street sweepers? Criminals. It sucks but you got to do what you got to do to get out faster.
