No I used to have a cat and he would do stuff like claw up a book I had been reading because he was jealous I guess.He clawed up the couch and when he would run back and forth real fast and then stop at the couch and claw it I clapped my hands and said No!. He would keep running back and forth faster but he would stop clawing for that time.

I threaten them all the time and they just look at me like I'm stupid. Probably because they know they can walk all over me. They got such cocky attitudes you know? Actually, my cats rule me. They can get violent and start showing those claws and fangs at any moment. You can't be too careful around felines.

If I did...I'd get arrested for abuse. That's why I don't have cats. I'll play with them and love them at a friends house. That's as far as it goes. I hate cat hair on my stuff and I hate them scratching up my furniture. Lets not talk about.....THE BOX.....This is just my opinion. To each his own.

I have to do this to my mother-in-law's cats. She has so many that they do tend to misbehave. A little butt smack (lightly) does not hurt them at all.
I don't have a cat right now but I used to and raising your voice a little works just fine.
I have one who is the boss,and one who is clueless,so not much point in smacking.
The boss will happily take your hand off,and the clueless one will just run and repeat the annoyance later.
