People in the UK(or Australia): Please explain "taking the piss" to me!

Question: I understand that it's giving someone else a hard time, but, do you give someone else "the piss" and, as a result, they "take the piss," or something else?

Simple!!!
Lets say you fall over and it was quite comical then people will take the piss
or
Lets say your favourite sports team loses to a really bad team then people will take the piss out of your team for being crap!!
Its basically a tease its not serious or malicious in the majority of cases although it can go too far.
Hope this helps.
Oh and by the way your Q is crap it doesnt make any sense give someone else the piss WTF!!!
Sorry just taking the piss out of you!!!

I don't think that is really how it works but it's an interesting theory!

no as a result thet "take it"

Only "take the piss"

No, you don't give someone the piss. It's just taking.

It's a negative, one-way the thing. The victim has the piss taken out of him. It doesn't go anywhere. It's just metaphorical piss!

Hi i`m an Aussie, yes taking the piss out of someone is making fun of them, when you make fun of them you`re taking the piss out of them.
