Is there anything more annoying than a drug or booze addict who kicks that and b!

Question: You know what I'm talking about, the guy who couldn't control his alcohol finds AA and changes his addiction to religion. Then he sees you, always a responsible drinker, enjoying a beer. "You know Jesus said the users of fire water will descend to hell in a fiery death" or something like that spews forth from the freshly holier than thou.

You, being that you got it right the first time, roll your eyes and continue to enjoy your beer, much to the chagrin of the religious freak.

Ohhhh Gawd Yes

Okay way back in 1990, I was young and stupid and got busted for drunk driving

So I did my 5 days in work-release jail

But I was also made to go to 3 AA mettings a week for 6 months

Omigawd

If they were not thumping the bible, they were chain smoking or gulping coffee

I learned from the meeting but I also saw so many just trade booze for God and could hardly drink their coffee without a
"Mmmm this coffee is as stong as the Lord's Kingdom"

I still drink but NO more driving and I'm NOT a dumb kid anymore

I saw so many lost people in AA
I swear one lady was like 70 and she would start drinking wine at 9am and pass out by noon and open more when she woke

I guess some need AA but it really irked them when i would not say God is my higher power

Religion really appeals to those at their ropes end for one reason or another.

I think they just give up one addiction for another if you ask me.

no there is NOTHING more annoying than that

The thing with this is, they replace 1 addiction for another. They never really lose the addictive personality, it just changes. And, yes, it's annoying!

Firewater is whisky, isn't it?

Reminds me of the song The Noose, by A Perfect Circle...
I get what you mean. Although I'd probably be more annoyed if that guy didn't take up religion and mugged me for drug money instead :p

Yeah. They're called, 'born again Christians.'

People often become addits because they want to have a social life. Religion is another social life. As long as you do as they say you are accepted. For people that have a hard time controlling themselves this can be a good thing.

I'm with ya buddy, how does he know what Jesus would want anyways, maybe Jesus really just wants to have a beer and watch the game with me!

lol iv never come across someone like that oersonally but that is so true! lol once and addict always an addict

I don't know what that's like, all of my friends are still alcoholics.

Yes I think it's annoying. But they are certainly trying to help THEMSELVES and are probably just new at it. Hopefully they'll change in time.
Something more annoying are the people who diagnose your illness and tell you what to do about it.

lol i know right how one minute you chugging down a jack daniels and then the next minute you trying to preach about daniel

Yes: a reformed prostitute.

the drug or drink guy who continues to wallow in the addiction is more annoying. i agree with you though, on it be annoying. AA is not about religion, it is about GOD, there is a difference.

UGH!!!!

I once walked up to a table (I was waitressing) to take an order. I said hello and welcome....etc. He said "did you know you can't get into heaven if you haven't been saved?" No hello, no smile, nothing. I just smiled and asked if he'd like the happy hour pitcher of beer.....LOL...

I so know what you are talking about! I have one of those type people in my family! He went from one extreme to the other! I think it's kind of funny sometimes to see what a religious nut he has become(and I mean nutty!). Sometimes it pisses me off though, cause he is pretty self righteous and makes me sick. He even goes to the extreme and preaches out on the street corners in the middle of town! To think a few months ago he was in a crack house smoking it up. But I guess this is much healthier? I am glad he's off drugs though. But now he is on a mental trip with Mr. Jesus.

It's not a sin to drink but to be drunk.

For some, alcohol and drugs are a crutch, They think it helps them to handle their problems or it's an escape. And for those who have been delivered from it, I am happy for them. If they want to give you a testimony of their deliverance and tell you about Christ what is wrong with that? You can always choose not to listen but that would be your lost.

NOTHING! LOL! .... correct my if I'm wrong but I recall Jesus turning water into wine ..... ?

ive been in recovery and have been sober almost 2 years myself. and i would NEVER think of telling somebody else what to do. if i dont want somebody to drink around me then i remove MYSELF from the situation. that guy must not have paid much attention in AA because the whole point of AA is to change yourself not others. in fact he's probably on his way back to the bottle if he's that much of a nazi. one extreme to another always leads to a disaster.

I know how you feel ......the same thing happened to my uncle.......its just hard to say anything coz when he talks about religion you cant deny the fact coz its true .........yet again when you think of his past...........you have got to admit............wow !!how ironic.....

oh i am totally getting ur point!
and it is indeed very annoying. more sad even ,then only annoying.
becouse i assure u , a religious fanatic can be far more dangerous to the society then a junkie or a drunk.
people should take medical therapy for their addiction .
and even if they are religious to accept some commune to help them , then they should choose to not getting brainwashed during the process .

P.S. to not misunderstand me , i do believe in God, but i hate fanaticism by all means.
there is nothing worse then that and it can destroy spmeone's life . the most ironic thing is that one doesn't know that he/she is becoming a robot !!!!
