haha I wrote the word "colour" with a "u" in a paper once in the 7th grade and I got points taken off! I was soooo pissed! LOL that was a long time ago. I thought it was cool.

yeus

Haha. not everthing.

it looks fancy lol

Thats how we spell colour in Australia, thats why.

I think those are the people in France.

It's the British spelling of the words.

it sounds french

I kind of agree. Colour is spelled that way because it's British, though. So I guess that maybe it...

i think they only do that in europe

loul

ium nout reaully suure whaut youur taulking abouut.

I agree with u. i mean y do they put a "u" on color and favorite. it doesnt make any sense! has the world gone mad?!
*akward silence*...i take that as a yes

That's how Canadians spell. It is probably the correct way, we just Americanized it.

I don't know. That kinda annoys me, too. I think it's because it's the "hip" thing to do now

just a mistake i guess

haha

nout everyoneu

I dount knouw :S

its because some words can be spelt with a "u" n them. Favourite, colour, etc.

I dont knouw? It think its a conspiracy.

U

Iu Havue Nou Ideua

i think its weird that people do that too! i mean seriously just go with one spelling (without a "u")

It makes the world moure colourful!

they spell things all proper and stuff like that in Britain. not us Americans, no siree. we hate our U's here in the states (:

that's the way those words are spelled in England & Australia

what?

good morning friend
for ex!!! nature, but natural

That is the proper English spelling. It's also used in Australia and Canada. Get used to it - not everyone spells it in American.

Great question because I've been asking myself the same thing...
They think it looks more important I guess, but it shows so much ignorance doing that..!

I live In New Zealand and that's how we spell colour here. I have not seen the other words you have asked about spelt this way though.

First of all, "poseur" is a different word than "poser" - has a slightly different meaning. So in that case, it's not a matter of someone just throwing an extra 'u' in; it's a separate word altogether. : ]

Secondly, I see TONS of Americans on the internet complain about people misspelling all sorts of words, like colour and favourite. They're not misspellings. Americans are the ones that spell things 'wrong'. (Btw, I am American!)

Australians, Brits, Canadians, etc. ALL use the original spelling, which includes a u. Just because we consider it superfluous and took the letter out doesn't make others incorrect. It just makes us different. : )
