I spent the majority of three days on a bus to California (from Tennessee) when I was 18...it was an experience. It sucked at the time, but I look back on it fondly now. I met some nice people and some scary people... you just have to hope for the best.
I've never ridden one myself. But members of my family have. I've never heard them say anything was scary about it.
Depends on how far your travelling.
